Description

1805 Small 5, Stems VG 8. B-3, C-3, R.5. Unusually nice for the grade, with lighter devices and darker fields, identifiable by a minor scratch in the field below the ribbon, and a pair of shallow marks above the ribbon. Apparently Die State I, before the rust spots appeared near the bulge on the obverse. All the devices are sharp except for the letters HA and CE of HALF CENT, which are weak. A very difficult variety to find in choice condition, even in this relatively low grade this coin isn't too far from the Condition Census. Important.
