Description
1809 C-1, B-2 Half Cent, VF Details
Unknown to Gilbert
1809 1/2 C C-1, B-2, FS-301, Low R.5 -- Bent -- PCGS Genuine. VF
Details. Manley Die State 2.0, the usual die state for this
rare variety. Richard Picker discovered this variety in 1954.
Rarity ratings have slowly dropped as examples continue to be
located unattributed. Roger Cohen rated C-1 as R.7 in 1971 and R.6
in 1982. Ronald Manley assigned a High R.5 rating in 1998, and
today it is Low R.5, and nearly in the R.4 range. Despite the lower
rarity ratings, this is still one of the extremely important die
varieties among the circulating Classic Head half Cents. Although
very lightly bent, this piece has pleasing surfaces with only a few
scattered marks on its light olive-brown surfaces. From The Mark Hays Collection of Half Cents.
