Description

1811 C-1, B-1 Half Cent, AU55
Famous Four-Star Break
Manley Plate Coin

1811 1/2 C Wide Date, C-1, B-1, Low R.4, AU55 NGC. Manley Die State 5.0, featuring a large rim break that covers the outer points of the first four stars. This is the exact piece that is illustrated in The Half Cent Die State Book 1793-1857 by Ronald P. Manley, Ph.D. A small divot between the D of UNITED and the first S of STATES confirms the plate match. This impressive piece exhibits olive-brown surfaces with some darker brown mottling. Excellent design definition is noted, and the planchet is much smoother than usual for an 1811 half cent. Our EAC grade XF40. Census for both 1811 varieties: 3 in 55, 0 finer (11/15).
Ex: Jim McGuigan (7/10/1984); Jules Reiver (Heritage, 1/2006), lot 19102.
