Description

Mint State 1854 Cohen-1, Breen-2 Variant

1854 1/2 C C-1, B-2, R.3. Die State 2. MS65 Brown NGC. MS63 EAC. Small date; Rust pit on I in UNITED. Ronald Manley considers the reverse with a rust lump on I of UNITED to be a later die state of the Breen-1 combination. This cataloger agrees with that assessment, given the presence of another rust lump, on the left upright of H, and visible on both reverse states. A splendid example with olive color and considerable original mint red, a borderline Red and Brown example. A single small pit mark is visible in the right obverse field, near the lower hair curl.
