Description

1855 C-1 Half Cent, MS65 Red
Beautifully Smooth and Evenly Colored

1855 1/2 C C-1, B-1, R.1, MS65 Red NGC. Fuhrman Die State 2. Bright copper-orange luster dominates the surfaces of this Gem Red cent, with some peach infusions present in the centers. Surprisingly smooth surfaces are coupled with pleasing portrait detail. The dentils are weak on a significant portion of both sides, but this is characteristic of the die state. The 1855 has the largest number of Red-certified half cents of any date due to a hoard found in the 1940s. Census: 14 in 65 (2 in 65+) Red, 0 finer (11/25).
Ex: Spring ANA Signature (Heritage, 3/2010), lot 85.
