Description

1857 C-1, B-1 Half Cent, MS64 Red
Only Two Finer at PCGS

1857 1/2 C C-1, B-1, R.2, MS64 Red PCGS. Struck in the denomination's final year from a mintage of just 35,180 pieces, the 1857 has long been a favorite of collectors. As a Choice Red survivor, it is also legitimately scarce. Scattered carbon flecks and minuscule marks on each side keep this well defined half cent from Gem status. The lovely orange surfaces display frosty mint luster. Population: 15 in 64 Red, 2 finer (1/25).
Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2006), lot 536.
