Description

Final Year 1857 Half Cent MS64 Red

1857 1/2 C MS64 Red PCGS. B-1, C-1, R.2. A frosty pinkish-gold example with scattered carbon flecks over each side that keep this well defined half cent from Gem status. Struck in the denomination's final year and from a reduced mintage of just 35,180 pieces, the 1857 has long been a favorite of collectors. As a Choice Red survivor, it is also legitimately scarce. Population: 14 in 64, 1 finer (11/05).(Registry values: P2)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26Z3, PCGS# 1241, Greysheet# 692)
