Description

High Grade Dr. Hewett 'Bone Setter' Token, HT-279

Circa 1837 Dr. Hewett "Bone Setter" Token. HT-279. Thin planchet. Copper, 29 mm, 6.6 gm. A very scarce Hard Times token from New York that was struck from worn and rusted dies. This uncertified piece grades MS63 Red and Brown and is delightfully problem-free. Rulau's 2004 token reference values this issue at $500 in "Unc." The current offering is far above a generic Uncirculated example and, as such, worthy of a premium bid.
Ex: The Frontenac Sale (Bowers and Merena, 11/1991), lot 589 (auction tag included).
