    (1832) Low-1B, HT-3 Andrew Jackson Token, AU58
    Aged Head Obverse

(1832) Andrew Jackson, Low-1B, HT-3, W-09-20a, R.6, AU58 NGC. Copper, reeded edge. The Aged Head obverse derives its name from the obvious wrinkles behind Jackson's mouth. The locks at the top of the head turn up. This variety is rated R.7 in A Guide Book of Hard Times Tokens and R.6 in Dr. Robert A. Schuman's The True Hard Times Tokens. Schuman records two high-grade representatives. His own example, from the Boyd and Ford Collections, is the finest known, and this piece is the second finest. All others grade Very Fine or below.

This lovely piece exhibits pleasing chestnut-brown surfaces with hints of pale blue and violet on each side. The obverse is improperly centered while the reverse exhibits better centering.
Ex: Virgil M. Brand; Michael Brand Zeddies (Bowers and Merena, 3/1990), lot 272; Donald G. Partrick.
