    Description

    1844 HT-211 J. Cochran Token, XF40
    Apparently the Finest Known
    Struck Over Another Token

1844 Batavia, New York, J. Cochran, Low-161, HT-211, W-NY-080-10a, High R.7, XF40 NGC. Copper, plain edge. An important token from the Bell Founder, James Cochran (1764-1847), this piece is recorded as the finest of just four known. Apparently, Cochran personally made his tokens. This chocolate-brown piece shows considerable undertype from another token that remains unidentified. This is an extremely important opportunity for the advanced collector.
Ex: David U. Proskey (Ed. Frossard, 12/1896), lot 486; Ben Green Sale (7/1912); Dr. George Hetrich; Donald Miller; Q. David Bowers; Donald G. Partrick.
