Description

1907 High Relief Double Eagle, Wire Rim, AU55
One of America's Most Beautiful Coins

1907 $20 High Relief, Wire Rim, AU55 PCGS. Green-gold surfaces and ample mint luster join forces to create a remarkable patina. A few old marks in the left obverse field, as well as hidden in the eagle's wing, provide the only the barest of distractions. Wear is limited to Liberty's knee and a few faint patches on the upper wing. Housed in a Generation 1.2 old green label "rattler" holder.

This coin is widely regarded to be one of the most beautiful U.S. coin designs, if not taking the top spot for itself outright. It is listed among the 100 Greatest U.S. Coins, ranking at #31 in the 6th edition. Its popularity was significant right after release and rose to extreme to heights when gold coin collecting first gained traction in the 1940s and 1950s. Today, around 5,000 survive, although demand from type collectors, double eagle collectors, and just connoisseurs of fine numismatic artistry in general, means that demand always exceeds supply. This is doubly true for beautiful survivors like the present offering.(Registry values: N2998)
