    MCMVII High Relief, Unc. Details
    Boldly Struck

1907 $20 High Relief, Wire Rim -- Ex-Jewelry, Cleaned -- ANACS. Unc. Details, Net AU50. Exhibiting the sculptural relief of early Greek coinage, the High Relief 1907 Saint-Gaudens double eagle is among the most sought-after and beautiful coins in American numismatics. Multiple impressions from the dies were needed to bring up the designs, which drastically slowed production, therefore Charles Barber lowered the relief partway through 1907, after only 11,250 High Relief specimens were struck.

The present example exhibits complete, sharply impressed detail and no detracting surface abrasions. ANACS notes old cleaning and removal from jewelry, though no damage is readily apparent, and the surfaces retain a pleasing yellow-gold patina. A few dark alloy spots or other discoloration are seen on the obverse, primarily in the field below Liberty's outstretched arm. The high relief of the design elements will make this an attractive piece in many United States gold coin collections.
