Unusual MCMVII High Relief Twenty, Fine 15

1907 $20 High Relief, Wire Rim Fine 15 NGC. Now here's something you don't see every day: A nice collector-grade High Relief Saint-Gaudens twenty, clearly carried as a pocket piece for a good long while and consequently worn down to Fine 15. It seems inconceivable that this piece could have stayed in regular circulation long enough to achieve this grade, as the high-relief design is distinctive enough that even noncollectors would likely have snatched it up--although one supposes that to be a possibility, as well. Even at this grade level, the majesty and dignity of the conception shine though, and much appeal remains. Nonetheless, there is little detail left in the center on Liberty's body, and the stars are beginning to merge with the rim on the obverse. The reverse also shows some blending at a few letter tops.(Registry values: N1)
