Description
1907 High Relief Double Eagle, MS62
Wire Rim Variety, OGH Holder
1907 $20 High Relief, Wire Rim, MS62 PCGS. A few faint
contact marks and a tiny rim nick above the second T in STATES
explain the MS62 grade, but nevertheless this is certainly an
above-average High Relief in terms of eye appeal. The basined,
medallic appearance of this magnificent coin and the visually
impressive deep strike invariably create an allure that is
impossible to ignore. Saint-Gaudens' masterwork extends right down
to the smallest details, such as the definition of Liberty's
fingers that grasp the torch. Demand for High Relief double eagles
was high from the moment they were first struck. This coin displays
a discernible fin (or Wire edge) from about 9 to 2 o'clock o the
obverse. Whether the coin is a Wire Rim or Flat Rim variety, every
surviving example of this American classic is a national treasure
and, thankfully, it becomes affordable at the MS62 level. As
always, we expect strong competition for any High Relief regardless
of grade.Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 26F2, PCGS# 9135, Greysheet# 10131)
