1907 High Relief Double Eagle, MS63
Colorful Wire Rim Piece

1907 $20 High Relief, Wire Rim, MS63 PCGS. The High Relief MCMVII double eagle was minted for commercial circulation, but as the first-year issue of a highly anticipated release, most of the mintage was acquired by insiders, dealers, and collectors. As a result, Mint State examples are plentiful up to Gem levels. The issue remains desirable as it most faithfully embodies Augustus Saint-Gaudens' original model. This Select Uncirculated example features radiant orange-gold surfaces on satiny mint luster. Beautifully struck, the right obverse rim reveals a thin "fin" of metal that is struck into all Wire Rim examples. Light abrasions define the grade but have little effect on the outstanding visual appeal provided by this delightful Saint-Gaudens double eagle. Among the 100 Greatest U.S. Coins.(Registry values: N4719)
