Impressive MCMVII High Relief MS64

1907 $20 High Relief, Wire Rim MS64 NGC. The year 2007 is the centennial of Augustus Saint-Gaudens' world-famous MCMVII high relief. The extremely rare ultra high reliefs are out of reach for all but the most deep-pocketed collectors, but a high relief is obtainable by the advanced collector. The historical importance of the low mintage high relief was identified early on by numismatists, and most survivors grade between AU55 or finer. But many pieces show flatness on Liberty's raised knee, and other examples exhibit faint scuffs or even abrasions from handling before they reached a collector's hand. The present gently shimmering representative is well struck, even on the knee, and the obverse on its own is sufficiently clean that it threatens a finer grade. The reverse has only faint peripheral marks at 2:30.(Registry values: N7079)
