Description

1907 Saint-Gaudens Twenty, MS64
High Relief, Wire Edge

1907 $20 High Relief, Wire Rim, MS64 PCGS. The mintages for both the Wire Rim and Flat Rim are intermingled with just 12,367 pieces, though the wire edge is the more prolific of the two. While not explicitly rare, the history and beauty of the piece have created a deep reverence for the design. This High Relief Saint-Gaudens double eagle's enrapturing visage displays satiny pyrite-gold luster. The well-struck example shows some light abrasions along the eagle's wing and right of Liberty's head, though they prove irrelevant to the appeal. A decent pool of Mint State examples exists at Choice Uncirculated, though it grows scarce at Gem and beyond. The present coin represents a more accessible option for collectors looking to acquire the pinnacle of American coin design. Among the 100 Greatest U.S. Coins (#31 in 6th edition).(Registry values: N7079)
