MCMVII (1907) Saint-Gaudens Twenty, MS62
High Relief, Wire Edge Variety

1907 $20 High Relief, Wire Rim, MS62 PCGS. The Saint-Gaudens double eagles are highly acclaimed for their aesthetic appeal, and the 1907 High Relief issue is particularly magnificent. As the 120th anniversary of the design approaches, the Saint-Gaudens High Relief double eagle remains iconic within the numismatic world. Despite political agendas, natural and economic catastrophes, wars, and technological advancements, the artistic integrity of the 1907 High Relief twenty stands as one of the finest and most popular designs the U. S. has ever coined.
The issue is also relatively plentiful, as the modest mintage of just 12,367 pieces was rarely circulated. Almost 80% of the certified pieces are in Mint State. This Wire Edge MS62 is typical of the issue and yields outstanding eye appeal from vibrant orange-gold surfaces layered in frosty luster. Hues of apricot and lavender flash in a dynamic cartwheel effect. The well-struck devices and shimmering fields show only light and trivial nicks that account for the grade. The Wire Edge ‘fin' is easily viewable on the reverse, as the holder limits easy access for viewing the obverse. The MCMVII (1907) High Relief Saint-Gaudens double eagle is listed among the 100 Greatest U.S. Coins (#31 in 6th edition).
