Description

Classic 'Peanut Ear' Hobo Carving
1913 Type One Host Nickel

Original Hobo Nickel by the OHNS-Named Artist "Peanut Ear." This is a first-rate example from this prolific and highly popular early artist, carved on a 1913 Type One nickel as often seen. All of the familiar Peanut Ear characteristics are on display -- the punched beard and hair, distinctive V-collar, and a thin line of hair below the well-finished domed hat. A slight indent at the top of the hat is another Peanut Ear signature. The peanut-shaped ear is positioned a little higher than other examples from this classic-era carver, with the top lobe touching the hat brim. No hobo nickel collection is complete without a fine example from this famous artist!
