Classic Style by 'Bert' Wiegand
1913 Type One Original Hobo Nickel by "Bert." This
remarkably well-preserved example is quintessential Bertram "Bert"
Wiegand. Bert was a disciplined artist who paid attention to
details, and usually stayed within the limits of what he knew best.
As Bo's mentor and teacher, Bert was the master, while innovation
and creativity were among his student's greatest assets.Bert worked quickly. The nickels he carved were soon sold or bartered, and despite his productivity, relatively few examples are extant today. This Domed Hat hobo is carved on a sharp 1913 Type One nickel. Soft luster permeates the slate-gray surfaces, with pale-blue and rose undertones. The Romines OHNS certificate #R-009 suggests it was probably carved pre-1932. The coin's Superior quality is on full display.
