Description

Victoria Pattern One Cent 1863, KM4.1 and Pn72, PF62 RB PCGS, Pridmore 165B and 287. This is technically a Pattern with the reverse central dot, since the dot was not used on the circulating coins. It should stay as KM-Pn72 and Pr-287 ONLY. This variety really does not qualify as a Proof, as the surfaces were not up to the standards one would expect on a Proof coin of this era. It is a Specimen strike, which covers part of the description of a Specimen coin in that it wasn't intended for circulation. This is the most common of the 1863 Patterns, with perhaps 50 struck examples to be given out to the people who would help make the final decision on what the circulating coins would be. The final decision was to remove the dot. This is struck with the medal die axis. It is also known to exist with a coin die axis.
