First Time Offered Ahmadnagar Sultanate Gold Pagoda

Ahmadnagar Sultanate. Burhan Nizam Shah II (AH 999-1003 / AD 1591-1595) gold Pagoda AH 1001 (1593) AU58 NGC, Burhanabad mint, G&G-10. 3.38gm. Featuring mint and ruler within scalloped circle design on obverse, and the Shi'a version of the Shahada on reverse. Burhan's reign began after he agreed to Mughal suzerainty, enabling him to claim the throne. This promise would be later ignored, causing strife with emperor Akbar, in addition to the diplomatic issues with the Sultanate of Bijapur culminating in Burhan's unstable and short lived stint as the seventh Sultan of Ahmadnagar. The first of any coinage from Burhan to be offered by our firm, this nearly Mint State specimen has well struck devices with olive-gold tones under a lemon sheen.
