The first independent Muslim sultanate of the Deccan plateau, the Bahmanis of Deccan were perpetually at war with neighboring kingdoms, particularly the Vijayanagar Empire. 'Ala Al-Din Ahmad II achieved victory against Devaraya II of Vijayanagar in 1443 with the last major conflict between the two foes.
