British India. Madras Presidency gold Pagoda ND (1740-1807) MS62 NGC, Fort St. George (Tegnapatnam) mint, KM303, Fr-1578. Single standing deity with reverse star amid grains.

Also called the Presidency of Fort St. George, the Madras Presidency was an administrative province of British India from the 1600s until the mid 1900s, and was comprised of large portions of south India. Originally established by the East India Company as one of their three presidencies, the Madras Presidency annexed multiple princely states, including the Kingdom of Mysore, eventually transforming into the modern Madras State in 1950.
