Description
1859 Laurel Wreath Cent, MS66+
Sharp CAC-Approved Type Coin
1859 1C MS66+ PCGS. CAC. Exceptional sharpness brings up the
design elements of this high-end Premium Gem, especially on the
Liberty portrait, with all the headdress feathers well defined. The
wreath is similarly bold, including the bowknot, which is often a
trouble spot for the issue. Glistening tan-gold luster is pristine,
with no spotting or bothersome abrasions. Eye appeal is
excellent. The Indian cent debuted in 1859 as a replacement for the short-lived Flying Eagle design, which had birthed the concept of a small one cent coin struck in a copper-nickel alloy. The initial design in 1859 utilized a laurel wreath on the reverse, which was replaced the following year with the oak wreath that would prevail through the end of the series in 1909. Population: 60 in 66 (12 in 66+), 0 finer. CAC: 19 in 66, 0 finer (1/25).(Registry values: N2998)
