Description

1865 Fancy 5 Cent, MS66 Red
Tied for the Finest Certified

1865 1C Fancy 5 MS66 Red PCGS. The Fancy 5 1865 Indian cent is more plentiful than its Plain 5 counterpart, but high-grade examples are nonetheless rare. This Red Premium Gem is among the finest seen by either leading certification service. Fine metal-flow lines in the obverse fields denote a late die state, but the sharpness of Liberty's portrait and the headdress feathers is largely unaffected. The wreath is sharp on the oak leaves but slightly soft on the bow. There are no bothersome abrasions. A few trivial flecks do not detract from the radiant surfaces, which show bronze-gold in the margins and coppery-red in the centers. Population: 11 in 66 Red, 0 finer (10/15).(Registry values: N2998)
