Description

Gem 1867 Indian Cent, MS65 Red

1867 1C MS65 Red PCGS. Only one finer Red example of this date has been certified by PCGS, and NGC has never graded a better one. It is a sharply struck piece with olive-gold centers and fire-red borders. Well struck, carbon-free, and minimally abraded. This piece is intriguing for the specialist, since a clashmark is on the Indian's neck from the N in ONE. It is unusual for evidence of clashed dies to show on the devices. Population: 19 in 65 Red, 1 finer (8/10).
Ex: FUN Signature (Heritage, 1/2007), lot 790, which realized $16,100.
