Description

Fire-Red Gem 1868 Cent
Exemplary Quality

1868 1C MS65 Red PCGS. CAC. Snow's comments for the business strike 1868 in the 1992 book Flying Eagle and Indian Cents are quite terse, but they do include the statement: "Difficult to find full red." Not only is the present example lustrous throughout, but the copper-gold and peach-red surfaces are virtually void of contact. The strike is bold aside from the top of the shield. The dies are faintly clashed. Population: 30 in 65 Red, 3 finer (2/12).
Ex: Central States Signature (Heritage, 5/2005), lot 5164, which realized $4,025.
