Description

1870 1C MS64 Red PCGS. Freckles of delicate reddish-tan run over the cherry-orange surfaces. Well but not fully struck, with the usual softness seen in some of the feather tips and the reverse shield. A shallow N in ONE is a characteristic of the reverse hub in use from 1864-early 1870, and not due to a weak strike. The surfaces are pristine, save for some minor flecks and a small graze through the I in UNITED. The entire obverse legend is recut, and signs of die clashing are seen, with an obvious impression from the C in CENT in the left obverse field. Population: 72 in 64 Red, 33 finer (8/09).(Registry values: N1793)
