Description

Sharp Near-Gem Red 1871 Indian Cent

1871 1C MS64 Red NGC. The 1871 has the lowest mintage of the 1864-1873 decade, at less than 4 million coins, and high-grade survivors are noticeably scarce in the marketplace. The present near-Gem shows a sharp strike even on the topmost headdress feathers, with local weakness only on the four ribbon diamonds. The reverse details are well brought up also, and mentionable distractions are absent. A Gem Red coin, if available, would cost much, much more. Census: 10 in 64 Red, 4 finer (12/07).(Registry values: N2998)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 227V, PCGS# 2102, Greysheet# 1322)
