Description
1871 Indian Cent, MS65+ Red
Exceptionally High End for the Issue
1871 1C MS65+ Red PCGS. CAC. The 1871 Indian cent began the
era of 1870s cents that are scarce in full Red condition. PCGS
reports merely 53 grading events for a Red 1871 across all grades,
the finest being a trio of coins in MS66 and MS66+. This coin is a
partial point below that top level, although as the only MS65 Red
coin at PCGS with a Plus designation, it is arguably still within
the Condition Census. It is also one of the top six coins with CAC
endorsement (1/25).Satiny, original mint luster yields warm copper-orange and golden hues across largely unabraded surfaces. The top two headdress feathers show a touch of softness at their tips, but the strike is otherwise bold throughout. Only a few tiny, faint flecks are discernible with a loupe, none overt in their presence. Population: 18 in 65 (1 in 65+) Red, 3 finer. CAC: 4 in 65, 2 finer (1/25).(Registry values: N7079)
