Description

1872 1C MS64 Red and Brown PCGS. Copper-gold surfaces show splashes of tan on the reverse. Generally well struck for the issue, though softness shows in a couple of the diamonds and in the upper right corner of the shield. Richard Snow (2006) states that: "Aside from the 1877, this is the toughest date to find today." He also indicates: "Many are missing detail ... due to machine oil or water resting on the planchet or on the dies."(Registry values: N1793)
