Description

Difficult 1872 Cent, MS65 Red and Brown

1872 1C MS65 Red and Brown NGC. Bold N. The 1872 is one of the more difficult dates of the Indian Head series to locate. Moreover, most are poorly struck, or are struck through machine oil, resulting in missing details (Richard Snow, 2009). The present Gem exhibits strong detail except for softness in one feather tip and on the second diamond from the bottom, and copper-gold luster peeks through the veil of light tan patina. A few small flecks are noted. Census: 75 in 65 Red and Brown, 8 finer (2/10).
