Lowest Philadelphia Mint Indian Cent Production
1877 1C MS65 Red PCGS. CAC. The acknowledged key to the
series and the rarest Indian Head cent, the 1877 boasts a low
mintage of 852,500 pieces. Richard Snow believes the reason for the
low mintage was the Mint's program of minor coinage redemption,
which saw the reissue of 9.8 million cents from earlier years in
1877. Coins in Gem Mint State condition with the Red designation
are quite rare today.The present coin is a magnificent Gem, with blazing red surfaces. The design elements are sharply detailed and no mentionable distractions are evident. Population: 23 in 65 Red, 6 finer (8/10).
