Description

1882 Cent, MS67 Red
High Condition Census
Important CAC Endorsement

1882 1C MS67 Red PCGS. CAC. The 1882 is surprisingly rare in MS67 Red considering its relative availability in lower Red grades. PCGS reports only three coins this fine, one of which is Plus designated. None are so fine at NGC (1/25). Of the three Superb Gems reported, two have previous appeared at auction. One, offered in a "rattler" holder in our July 2005 ANA Signature, is now the MS67+ Red coin. The other, in MS67 Red, has appeared three times, in 2006, 2009, and 2019, all Heritage offerings.

This is the first offering of the third piece. Along with the MS67+ Red piece, it is tied for the finest with CAC endorsement, effectively ranking it superior to the other MS67 Red coin in terms of technical recognition. The coin drips eye appeal, frosty luster, rich color in shades of copper-gold, rose, and autumn-orange. Sharp definition spans the relief elements, while Liberty's cheek and the fields are largely pristine. The lack of spotting adds all the more to what is decidedly a top-tier Registry coin. Population: 3 in 67 (1 in 67+) Red, 0 finer. CAC: 2 in 67, 0 finer (1/25).(Registry values: N4719)
