Description
1888/7 Cent, Choice VF
Famous Overdate, Snow-1, FS-301
1888/7 1C Snow-1, FS-301, VF35 NGC. This is hands-down the
most famous and sought-after variety in the widely collected Indian
Head cent series. The most recent edition of Rick Snow's series
reference documents 35 known examples. A few more probably exist,
but not too many, as the variety has been well-publicized for more
than 40 years. This mid-grade representative is evenly circulated
with golden-brown fields and steel accents over the high points.
Reddish-purple color appears at the right obverse. Faint remnants
of the underlying 7 are clear, and the diagnostic rim break above
TE in UNITED is evident. Smooth and minimally marked with a single,
slender pinscratch left of the 1 in the date. Census: 1 in 35, 7
finer (1/20).Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 228G, Variety PCGS# 37543, Base PCGS# 2169, Greysheet# 285715)
