Description

1908-D No Motto Ten Dollar, MS63
Ex: Bass

1908-D $10 No Motto MS63 PCGS. This issue was of interest to Harry Bass, as well as many others who have studied the series, because of the widely punched mintmark on the reverse. It is unlike the placement seen on any other issue in the series. The surfaces are hazy in the center of the obverse, but bright and reddish-tinted elsewhere. The mattelike texture shows no obvious abrasions.
Ex: Acquired by Harry Bass in a trade with Stanley Kesselman; Bass II (Bowers and Merena, 10/1999), lot 1666; Long Beach Signature (Heritage, 2/2011), lot 4575, where it sold for $8,625.(Registry values: N2998)
