Description

Appealing 1908-S Ten Dollar, MS64

1908-S $10 MS64 NGC. CAC. Despite its relatively small mintage of 59,850 pieces, Mint State 1908 eagles can be located without too much difficulty. Apparently, the contemporary public saved many examples as novelty items (David Akers, A Handbook of 20th Century United States Gold Coins).
Strong luster invigorates this near-Gem, and a solid strike imparts sharp definition to the design features. A few unobtrusive marks on the brass-gold surfaces barely preclude full Gem classification. This highly appealing ten dollar is sure to please the fussiest collector. Census: 22 in 64, 23 finer (9/09).(Registry values: N4719)
