Description

1909 Eagle, MS65
Underrated and Conditionally Rare

1909 $10 MS65 PCGS. CAC. The 1909 eagle is far scarcer in Gem Mint State than any of the 1910 to 1915 tens, and it ranks behind only the 1907 Wire Edge and 1907 Rolled Edge varieties as well as the rare 1933 in terms of overall series scarcity. This example is clearly near the upper end of the Gem category with problem-free, sharply struck surfaces and radiant cartwheel mint luster. The medium-gold color flashes reddish-orange and lime-green highlights when rotated in light.

Obvious abrasions or marks are nowhere to be be found. A few microscopic ticks on the highest points of the eagle are noted but they are require a strong glass and do not detract in the least. The strike is sharp on the headdress and eagle's plumage, with slight blending on a few hair strands but these, too, are minor. Simply put, this is a magnificent Gem eagle worthy of a bold bid. CAC endorsed. Population: 18 in 65 (1 in 65+), 11 finer. CAC: 5 in 65, 2 finer (6/16).
