Description

1909-S Ten Dollar, MS64+
Scarce in Mint State

1909-S $10 MS64+ PCGS. CAC. The 1909-S ten dollar was virtually impossible to obtain in Uncirculated condition prior to a hoard of about 60 Mint State pieces discovered in 1977. Since then, a few other small hoards have substantially raised the Mint State population. Despite these discoveries, the issue is still scarce in high grades.

The present high-end near-Gem is one of just five so graded by PCGS (10/24). It is a refreshingly unabraded representative with attractive lime-green and apricot toning. The mintmark is lightly repunched. Except for the lower feathers of the headdress the design elements are well impressed. Population: 58 in 64 (5 in 64+), 34 finer. CAC: 15 in 64, 6 finer (10/24).
