Description

    1911-D Ten Dollar, MS62
    Conditional Series Rarity

1911-D $10 MS62 NGC. The 1911-D eagle issue is every bit a key to its Indian Head series, just as its 1911-D half eagle and quarter eagle counterparts are in theirs. If it is less well-known, it is because it shares the limelight with other keys in the Indian Head eagle series, such as the 1907 Wire Rim and the 1920-S. But conditionally speaking, the 1911-D is the most difficult coin in the series, with most Mint State examples grading no higher than MS62, such as the present piece. The satiny surfaces are well-preserved and generate copious eye appeal, fine-grained orange-gold throughout. A few stray marks on the high points and in the fields on each side determine the grade, but this coin will find a wealth of ready bidders, both for its rarity and its quality. Census: 72 in 62 (1 in 62+), 25 finer (10/13).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 28GU, PCGS# 8869)

    Weight: 16.72 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
