Description

Mint State 1911-S Eagle
Scarce in all Uncirculated Grades

1911-S $10 MS61 NGC. The low-mintage 1911-S eagle was produced to the extent of only 51,000 pieces, and examples in the higher Mint State grades are elusive. Many examples of this issue are characterized by an "area of semicircular roughness in the lower-left obverse field," according to Akers. This piece shows a curious curved mark, origin unknown, in the left field that parallels that area. Otherwise, a few scattered ticks and scrapes define the grade. The lustrous orange-gold surfaces nonetheless display considerable appeal.(Registry values: N1793)
