Description

1912-S Ten Dollar Indian, MS65
Sharp and Conditionally Rare

1912-S $10 MS65 CACG. The 1912-S Indian eagle is much scarcer overall than its Philadelphia counterpart. Mint State coins in MS64 are the finest usually available, as Gems are rare. We have previously seen only three Gem examples in the last decade, the most recent was an MS65 NGC coin in our August 2023 Signature, which realized $26,400. We have not seen a finer piece since 2009, when an MS66 PCGS coin realized $115,000.

This Gem CACG example displays vibrant yellow-gold luster with only a few light marks seen under a loupe. This date can come very well struck, and the current example does not disappoint. The border stars are boldly defined, and the central devices similarly well brought up. Eye appeal is excellent. PCGS and NGC combined list 25 pieces in MS65 or MS65+, with three finer; CACG has slabbed only this one coin in MS65 and has CAC-stickered four of the PCGS/NGC coins (6/25).(Registry values: N7079)
