Description
1912-S Ten Dollar, MS65
Conditionally Rare
1912-S $10 MS65 PCGS. The 1912-S is not a key date in the
absolute sense, although it is a major rarity in Gem condition,
many times rarer than its Philadelphia counterpart. Indian gold
specialist Mike Fuljenz writes in Indian Gold Coins of the 20th
Century: "The highest concentration of Uncirculated specimens
lie at the MS62 level and probably fewer than 100 examples are
known in properly graded MS63 or better." The Gem example offered
here is near the Condition Census, as only three numerically finer
coins are reported by PCGS and NGC combined (11/17). Luminous satin
surfaces yield warm honey-gold luster and show no distracting
abrasions. The strike is sharp, and eye appeal is generous. Among
the finest examples of the date that most collectors will ever have
a chance to acquire. Population: 14 in 65 (1 in 65+), 1 finer
(11/17).(Registry values: N7079)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28GX, PCGS# 8872, Greysheet# 9768)
Weight: 16.72 grams
Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
