Description

1915-S Indian Eagle, MS64
Series Semikey and Condition Rarity

1915-S $10 MS64 PCGS. Ex: Harbor View. The 1915-S is one of the keys to the No Motto portion of the Indian eagle series, boasting a small 59,000-coin mintage. Uncirculated survivors are scarce and typically come with detracting abrasions. Pieces grading finer than MS62 are rare. Mike Fuljenz writes of this issue: "Most 1915-S Eagles have below average eye appeal and this is one of the reasons why this date is so rare in Gem Uncirculated. The typical example is well struck and lustrous but very bagmarked."

This is a Registry-grade MS64 coin. "Well struck and lustrous" is a fitting description, but this near-Gem is far finer than the typically seen example with heavy abrasions. The surfaces yield smooth, satiny luster in rich orange-gold and honey hues. A loupe reveals a few trivial marks on the cheek, but bothersome abrasions are nonexistent. The 1915-S ten is rare this fine and exceedingly so any finer. Population: 23 in 64 (1 in 64+), 8 finer (2/16).
