Description

1915-S Indian Eagle, MS64
Well-Made San Francisco Semikey

1915-S $10 MS64 PCGS. The Denver Mint abstained from striking ten dollar gold coins in 1915, leaving it to the facilities at Philadelphia and San Francisco. The vast majority of eagles were struck on the East Coast; Only 59,000 pieces were minted in California. The 1915-S has a very similar mintage to the 1908-S, but examples are noticeably less available, especially in Choice condition or higher. In fact, few issues in the Indian Head eagle series are as elusive as the 1915-S in top grades.

Frosty, medium yellow-gold surfaces feature the sharply struck relief elements one would expect from a high-end representative of this well-produced San Francisco emission. Each side is remarkably unabraded. Two ticks occur on Liberty's cheek and brow. A few reddish alloy spots appear on the obverse. Population: 23 in 64 (1 in 64+), 8 finer (4/16).(Registry values: N7079)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28H6, PCGS# 8879, Greysheet# 9772)

Weight: 16.72 grams
