    1920-S Indian Eagle, Series Key
    Top-Notch Choice AU Example
    Few Survive in Any Grade

1920-S $10 AU55 PCGS. The 1920-S eagles are series keys, behind the notable 1933 and 1907 Rolled Rim varieties. The 1920-S was the first issue produced in the Indian Head eagle series since the 1916-S four years earlier and, clearly, most of the coins slipped unnoticed into circulation. Only 126,500 pieces were produced, and any collectors who own an example in any grade today can count themselves among the fortunate few. This Choice AU PCGS-certified example is a nice coin for the grade, displaying subtle lilac color in the centers with reddish-gold border accents. The cheek of the Indian shows a few of the more prominent handling marks, and a shallow, curved scratch occurs on the reverse below the eagle's beak. For many collectors this piece will offer many of the charms of a Mint State piece at a far more obtainable price point. Population: 11 in 55, 33 finer (8/12).(Registry values: N4719) (NGC ID# 28H8, PCGS# 8881)

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens as Illustrated by the Morse and Duckor Collections
Revised Edition by James L. Halperin, Mark R. Borckardt, Mark Van Winkle, Jon Amato, and Gregory J. Rohan, with special contributor David W. Akers

The Coinage of Augustus Saint-Gaudens is an issue-by-issue examination of these two artistically inspired series of gold coins. Each date and mintmark is reviewed with up-to-date information, much of which has never been previously published. The book is based on two extraordinary collections: The Phillip H. Morse collection and the Dr. and Mrs. Steven L. Duckor collection.
