Description

1908 Indian Head Five Dollar, MS66
Extremely Rare Any finer

1908 $5 MS66 PCGS. This is the first year of Bela Lyon Pratt's Indian Head half eagle. Sporting a mintage exceeding 577,000 pieces, it is available in most Mint State grades through near-Gem. Gems are somewhat scarce, but can be located with patience. Premium Gems are extremely scarce--indeed, PCGS and NGC have certified only about 35 pieces in this grade. Higher grade examples are extremely rare.
Both sides of this MS66 example display vibrant luster and beautiful apricot-gold patina, and a solid strike delivers virtually full definition to the design elements. This piece has been very well cared for and exudes outstanding eye appeal. Population: 17 in 66, 1 finer (11/11).(Registry values: N7079)

Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28DE, PCGS# 8510, Greysheet# 9308)

Weight: 8.36 grams

Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper
