    1908 Indian Half Eagle, MS66
    Top-Notch First-Year Type Issue

1908 $5 MS66 PCGS. The first-year-of-issue 1908 Indian five dollar was saved in greater numbers than following years, giving it a second reason for type collectors to chase nice examples. This Premium Gem is among the few nicest survivors, displaying bright mint luster over antique-gold surfaces that are free of marks in any of the prime focal areas. It takes strong magnification to see minuscule ticks on the Indian's cheek, near the temple, and on the jawline, far less severe than normally seen. The strike is uniformly bold throughout both sides, another plus that collectors will appreciate. Population: 18 in 66 (1 in 66+), 2 finer (11/13).(Registry values: N7079)

    Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28DE, PCGS# 8510)

    Weight: 8.36 grams

    Metal: 90% Gold, 10% Copper

With the superb catalog, a masterwork prepared by Mark Borckhardt, the sale was destined to meet all of my expectations; that it did, and then some. Be assured that I would highly recommend Heritage Auctions to any of my associates contemplating the sale
