Description
1908-D Indian Half Eagle, MS65
Tied for the Finest at NGC
1908-D $5 MS65 NGC. A sharply detailed Gem specimen of this
important first-year issue, the attractive autumn-gold surfaces
have subdued luster and minimal marks that combine to define the
grade. David Akers mentioned that several small hoards were
typically MS60 to MS63 quality, although he mentioned the Virgil
Brand holdings that contained a small quantity of higher-grade
coins. He wrote: "Most of the relatively few choice pieces around
today are from the Brand hoard." However, the Brand provenance is
difficult or impossible to confirm for these pieces today due to
the passage of time. Brand's death came nearly 100 years ago in
June 1926. Census: 7 in 65, 0 finer (10/25).(Registry values: N7079)Coin Index Numbers: (NGC ID# 28DF, PCGS# 8511, Greysheet# 9317)
Weight: 8.36 grams
